GMA's Press Release about 24 Oras: Pathetic!

GMA released the following statement about 24 Oras:

24 Oras maintained its lead over its rival primetime newscast based on the Mega Manila TV Household Ratings data for the period of January 4 to 29 from AGB Nielsen Philippines. GMA Network’s primetime newscast led by 4.6 percent during the first week of January and continued to top the competition throughout the month.

GMA’s Public Affairs programs also posted remarkable leads over the competition during the entire month. Unang Hirit dominated Umagang Kay Ganda with a lead that grew from 0.6 percent to 1.6 percent by the last week of January. Reporter’s Notebook posted a 2.6 lead over The Correspondents from Jan. 4 to 8. Born To Be Wild continued to dominate Probe Profiles/ Bandila the entire month, even posting a commanding 4.2 percent lead from Jan. 11 to 15. Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, in turn, was also victorious as its ratings continued its climb the entire January.

But undoubtedly leading the charge is 24 Oras, posting a commanding 29.5 as against the competition’s 27.2 rating points from January 11 to 15. In the succeeding weeks of January 18 to 22 and 25 to 29, 24 Oras’s lead grew to 3.1 rating points.

The latest ratings data further solidifies 24 Oras’s position as the leading and most preferred newscast, powered by the viewers’ unwavering trust in the newscast and in the network.

These findings underscore 24 Oras’s dominance over the competition. Bannered by the most formidable and credible tandem in local broadcasting today—award winning broadcast journalists Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco, and beefed up by the country’s most respected news team that has won both local and international honors, GMA News’ 24 Oras is committed to deliver only the untainted truth.

As 24 Oras remains the undisputed news leader, it strives even harder to give viewers the brand of journalism that the most credible news organization in the country has always stood for—upholding the highest standards of ethics and journalism.
This made us both laugh and annoyed. What's the big deal? TV Patrol World has been beating 24 Oras FOREVER in the National Ratings. And that's not just a matter of 4 to 5% difference. We're talking of double-digit differences here!

Here's a comparison of last Friday's Ratings for example:

AGB Mega Manila: 24 Oras (GMA-7) 26.9%; TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN) 26.6% (0.3% difference)
TNS Nationwide: 24 Oras (GMA-7) 21.5%; TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN) 34.6% (13.1% difference)

Even an ordinary man would understand those data. 24 Oras beats TVPatrol by very small percentages in a smaller area which is Mega Manila while TVPatrol defeats 24 Oras by bigger percentages in a bigger area which is Nationwide.

Anyway, why is GMA releasing this kind of stuff? Are they running out of supporters already? If you're no.1, you don't have to say it. People will know already. If you have to keep telling people you're number one, it only means very few people believe you.

Comments please!

  2. you're absolutely right tvp. let me quote joey de leon, ''hindi importante sa amin ang ratings na yan!'' pero halos every week nagpapalabas sila ng ' 'praise'' release para sabihing number one kuno sila. such a desperate move.

  13. comparing the two polls is like comparing an apple to an orange. they are both fruits but the comparison is plainly wrong. the statistics they gathered are also incomparable, since they cater to different respondents. compare the tns mega rating and the national rating and now we are talking sense. only ignorant people compare two different polls or surveys using different sampling designs and respondents.

i can easily pinpoint here an ignorant guy who is trying to be wise and intelligent. but , he/she is not!

  15. i would have to agree with the comment on the comparison of the ratings. tns ratings and agb are done independently of each other, and i doubt they are done to check and balance each other's results. thus, there is no baseline from where you can completely compare their results while they have different random samples.

Don't be pathetic..accept the fact..TV police is telling us their point..if you internalize the sense of their point..they are actually right..

It is quite desperate move for GMA to do some praise release if the data they use covers only mega manila.

Hello? We are not comparing the ratings of National and Mega Manila because 24Oras is leading in Mega Manila. That's a fact based on both AGB and TNS Mega Manila Ratings.

What we are comparing are the scope and extent of the lead of 24Oras and TVPatrol. You can read the article again to be enlightened.

Smart people would easily understand our point. We're sorry if you don't. :D

  19. tvpolice, can you make an article regarding the "alsa-balutan" daw of the overworked and underpaid writers of abs-cbn? i just wanna know if it's true or pakana lang to ng kabila.. please??? thanks in advance...

    ReplyDelete
  21. i also read it through stir.ph. it this is true, abs should air their side, for us to know kung bakit nangyayari ito.. maybe they are meticulous enough just to give viewers the quality of shows the latter deserve.. lets not focus on one side....

  30. something to be considered din is the fact that ABS-CBN is a bigger company than GMA is. national ratings results will really have a tendency to have a bigger difference kasi the scope is wider, and sa case na to, even GMA admitted that they have limited network reach and influence compared sa ABS-CBN. although this doesn't necessarily mean one station is completely better than the other in all aspects. additionally, the responses in these surveys are also influenced by the socio-economic status, regional and cultural values in particular places where the survey may have been conducted.

    just an objective opinion.

    ReplyDelete

tama... kung alam mong NO.1 ka.. ndi mo na kailngan ipagyabang, and the worst part is, GMA will not stop!

are you really that stupid?....well, before say something dumber better check the article first.policemen already air his side, and i guess its really whats the tvp are trying point out....its not whats survey network has more subscibers....hello?...bakit sino bang Survey Network ang may complaint of irregularities and inaccurate surveys not only in the philippines but also in another part of the map?.....di ba AGB...in terms naman of sino ang mas madaming subscribers....sino ba ang mas nauna na Survey sa Phil di ba AGB kaya natural na mas maraming subscriber ang AGb dahil odr networks already sign contracts na.....notice after a year or 2 mawawalan na rin ng subscriber ang AGb kasi masyadong manipulated ang data na binibigay and so inconsistent,...pakiresearch na rin ho kapusucks kung anong Network Survey ang kadalasang ginagamit outside phil....its TNS....
