ABS-CBN's Christmas Special tonight: Will GMA be able to match it?

According to reports, ABS-CBN's Christmas Special was really star-studded. Almost all ABS-CBN stars were present even Judy Ann Santos who was rumored to have considered not attending it.

Most numbers were singing showdown for the Kapamilya singer-stars but comedy stints were also done courtesy of Chokoleit, Pokwang and Pooh.

On the other hand, GMA will also stage a Christmas Special via "After the Rain: A Hopeful Christmas with Regine.” We're not sure yet if this is THE Christmas Special of the Kapuso network or if they have plans to stage another one soon.

GMA Network's award-winning primetime news anchors Mel Tianco and Mike Enriquez, together with Kapuso prime time royalties Richard Gutierrez, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, will share inspiring words and feelings of admiration for the typhoon victims’ courage and resilience amidst the disasters.

The country's top singers, led by Regine, performed on stage while stories about losing loved ones, of unsung heroes, and tales of survival, hope, happy endings, and gratitude unfold. Others who gave heartwarming performances were Jaya, Kuh Ledesma, Pops Fernandez, JayR, Kyla and La Diva plus the UP Concert Chorus.

No photos of the GMA special are available because GMA's site is right-click protected and we get the idea that they don't want to share their photos.

    pinanood ko ang ABS-CBN Christmas Special. Maganda kase full of hope and thanksgiving ang theme.

    Sumilip din ako sa GMA. Kaso di ko natiis kase napaka gloomy kagaya ng station ID nila. May mga common tao as props at kandila effect. Parang hindi na naka alis sa trahedya.

    hindi naman sa pinagaaway ng TVpolice ung mga network dahil sa title ng blog na toh. Ang sa amin lang, dahil wala naman ibang ginawa ang GMA kundi magclaim na sila ang number one, patunayan naman nila!! Hindi yung puro copycat lang. Take note, im not saying remake, im saying COPYCAT. utang na loob ha...

    Will, congrats pala sa ABS-CBN ang ganda ng Christmas Special nila napanood ko kagabi, its so intertaining particularly the stunts of the comedian.. Good job guys..
    Regarding to GMA's After the Rain parang SOP lang din walang pinag-iba boring parin. Sumaglit ako doon kasi idol ko c Regine kaso walang masyadong impact.. nakakaantok... peace guys... piro I,m telling the truth..

    i watched both christmas special ang observation ko lang abs-cbn singers ay talagang kulang sa boses,,parang nanood ka lang ng mga pang barangay na concert,parang kulang...yung number nila zsa zsa at vina napaka dry talaga....sa kabila naman solve kana sa boses ni regine,,talagang tatayo balahibo mo,,lalo na yung kinanta niya ang silent night....without being bias abs-cbn christmas ang baduy baduy talaga.....ewan ko ba sa mga kapamilya sabi nila class sila,,yun na ba class para sa kanila?..hahayayayayaya..

    i like the stand-up comedy part ng ABS-CBN special. Kasi syempre nagturo ng mga tips sa bagyo (well, im one of the lucky victims of ondoy..)then naitagpi nila yun with presidential aspirant's taglines. napaka natural lang. at syempre, ndi ko malilimutan yung message ng buong program, dumaan man sa khit anong pagsubok si Juan, kaya pa din natin ngumiti at maging masaya. Siguro nga showcasing of talents ung ginawa ng dalawang networks pero ung message na na convey ng ABS-CBN ung nagretain sa akin. sa GMA kasi, sige, magaling singers nyo (sabi nyo eh..), pero napakasad. para bang ndi na tayo nakaahon sa trahedya. napaka negative impact. Dry man ang performance ng ABS-CBN (accdg to the observation on the comment above), at least may message worth remembering. Sa GMA, tumayo man ang balahibo mo, wala lang. Tumayo din naman balahibo ko nung napakabilis na tumataas ang tubig sa loob ng bahay namin hanggang maglampas tao na. Same impact lang ba si regine at ang tubig baha?

    dont get me wrong. i like regine's voice. she's a superb singer. i'm after the nerwork's christmas special. not the artists themselves.

    ABS CBN's Christmas special was both hopeful and entertaining...m

    i had a glimpse of the other show,,,and atmosphere pa lang parang ang lungkot nah...i thought the "kawawang people" sa stage...i find it a little corny...but i would say its ok,, for the effort...
    ABS CBN's special however was way better..

    may mas magaganda pang performance ang ipapalabas sa part 2 ng special...kay mas kaabang abang un...and i believe...hndi a talaga pang xmas special na ung sa gma..may all star din nmn siguru sila..sana..para nmn magenjoy ung both kapuso and kapamilya sa network na loyal sila..kasi..kahit anu pang sabihin naten..paninira at papuri sa mga iniidolo nateng artista at sa mismong network..bottomline is...wer only after dun sa entertainment na ibinibigay nila saten..why compare ung mga pinapalabas sa mgkabilang network kung sa dulu nmn ng usapin..sa pusu at isipan nten iisang network lang ang number one sa pusu naten...
    kapamilya ka man o kapusu...bsta ang mahalaga masaya ka sa pinapanuod mo...tayo ang ngpapayamn sa kanila kaya dapat lang na mganda at may kabuluhan ang mga programng pinapanood naten...

    i agree with the comment 18 above. it doesnt matter saan istayon ka nanonood. it's after-all a matter of taste and loyalty. so the respective stations should think of satisfying and entertaining their loyal viewers. the more viewers, more commercials. kung masaya ka nga naman sa pinapanood mo, wqala kang pakialam sa sasabihin ng iba.
